Early Learning
Early learning in Deer Park.
Located a short walk from Station Waters Reserve and Kororoit Creek in Deer Park, our kindergarten has educated and cared for local children since 1968.
Our educators are passionate about working with your child to build on their strengths and interests, while forming social connections with their peers.
We encourage your child to follow their curiosity, explore and discover the world around them through hands-on, nature-based activities.
We plan our activities with your child’s interests and abilities in mind, so they engage with the program and develop a love of learning.
Our educators offer an inclusive environment and can support children who live with physical and intellectual disabilities.

Learning experiences
Your child will participate in fun, educational and collaborative activities each day.
Caring for the environment
Our leafy outdoor area inspires children to get in touch with nature. Your child will:
- Help tend to our fruit trees and vegetable garden
- Care for our worm farm
- Learn about sustainable habits
- Learn about flora and fauna
- Recycle materials and water
Excursions and incursions
We enjoy excursions in our local community and often host visitors to talk to the children about interesting topics. In the past we have:
- Visited the local library
- Received a behind-the-scenes look through our local supermarket
- Heard about the importance of water safety from the local swim centre team
- Enjoyed Drama Toolbox performances
- Listened to a talk about native animals
- Participated in workshops with Bunnings.
To help prepare your child for their schooling years, we partner with:
- Deer Park North Primary School
- Peter Chanel Primary School
- The local Preschool Field Officer.
Family and community connections
We love it when families get involved in our kindergarten. You can get involved in:
- Celebrating significant cultural festivals and days
- Talking to the children about your job, hobbies or other interesting topics
- Assisting with fundraising.
Languages
We are part of the Victorian Department of Education and Training (DET) Early Childhood Language Program. Our kindergarten offers a Mandarin Language Program. Mandarin is incorporated into everyday learning experiences to give children meaningful opportunities to use the language themselves. Children learn this language through play, art, music, singing, dancing, and stories. A qualified Mandarin teacher delivers the language program in partnership with the other staff at the kinder. Learning in languages other than English helps children to improve their overall literacy and understanding of how language in general works. There are many benefits to children learning in another language at a young age, including:
- Increased literacy
- Boosting self-esteem and wellbeing
- Strengthened cultural identity.
Our educators are trained to use some key word signing. We can also have communication translated and interpreted for families who speak languages other than English.

Mental Health
Our educators are trained in various programs to support the mental health of your child and are skilled in working with children who have experienced challenges and trauma. We also offer mental health support for families if you find yourself in need of assistance.
Nutrition
We understand the importance of teaching children healthy eating habits. At our kindergarten, we:
- Emphasise food safety
- Offer progressive snack and lunch time to empower children to ask for what they want and when
- Educate children and families about healthy eating and nutrition.
Safe Environment
As a child safe organisation, our educators undergo regular working with children’s and police checks. We are focussed on delivering learning and development in a safe and supportive environment, so you can trust that your child is in good hands.
