Starting kinder is a big step. Located at the Wonthaggi North Primary School, Wonthaggi North Uniting Kindergarten gives children and their families a warm welcome to kinder. By giving children opportunities to explore their interests through play, they can build their confidence and skills before starting school, while also gaining exposure to sustainability, inclusion and diversity.
Pre-prep: If your child meets the criteria for priority access, you may be eligible for up to an additional 7.5 hours of free kindergarten per week. From 2026, Pre-prep is available for 4 year old children enrolled in a kindergarten program in these priority cohorts:
• identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander
• are from a refugee or asylum seeker background
• have had contact with Child Protection services.
About Our Wonthaggi North Kindergarten
As part of Uniting Early Learning, our Wonthaggi North kindergarten is backed by a not-for-profit provider with more than 100 years in local Victorian and Tasmanian communities. We work with families to help children explore their interests, build confidence, practise independence and form friendships in an inclusive, supportive space.
Our mixed-Aged Kinder Program
Children need different support as they grow. This is why we cater to the needs of both 3-year-olds and 4-year-olds in one mixed-aged group that allows kids to learn from one another. It gives children the opportunity to observe and follow the example of their older peers, while older children develop their empathy, responsibility and leadership skills.
Our educators tailor experiences to each child’s age, interests, abilities and stage of development. For younger children, it usually involves gentler support while they become more familiar with kinder routines, group learning and new friendships. Their older peers also get the guidance they need to develop their independence, communication, early literacy, numeracy and confidence ahead of school.

Jane leads our team at Wonthaggi North Uniting Kindergarten, with more than 25 years of experience working with children. Each of our team is qualified to work with children, providing evidence-based learning techniques, combined with our community and family-focused values to support and nurture your child in their own unique learning journey.
Early Childhood Teacher
Hi, I’m Jane and I’m the Teacher at Wonthaggi North Kindergarten. I’ve had the pleasure of working with children for over 25 years in a few different services both here and overseas. I hold a Bachelor of Early Childhood Teaching from Victoria University. Children are the most wonderful of people. Their curiosity, ideas and creativity make being with them a joyful experience. Having the opportunity to see the world through a child’s eyes gives a very Creating beautiful, inviting play spaces for children is one of my favourite parts of my job. Watching how children interact, play and learn from these experiences gives me so much insight into each individual child. We prefer to use natural and recycled materials throughout the program where possible, encouraging children’s connection to country and the environment while starting to develop their understanding of sustainability. The teaching team at Wonthaggi North Kindergarten comes with many years of experience. Our aligned teaching practice focuses on a play-based program. Children will have opportunity to learn, explore, build relationships and essentially have fun. We look forward to welcoming you to our kinder.
