High Country Early Learning Centre offers kindergarten and day care services in Omeo. Located on Day Avenue, your child can enjoy a variety of educational and interactive experiences as a kindergarten student (Monday & Tuesday, 8:30am-4:00pm) or as part of child care (Tuesday to Friday, 8:30am-4:00pm).

Our brand new learning centre offers state-of-the-art outdoor spaces, indoor education and health facilities to provide flexible and comprehensive care for your children.

To showcase our facility we have created a 3-D Virtual Tour with a dollhouse view and a highlight reel.

Our updated and spacious outdoor area offers a variety of safe and engaging play equipment for your child’s delight, in addition to versatile indoor spaces. They’ll learn about sustainability, responsibility, and develop essential social skills while having fun with their peers in our variety of play areas.

Learning Experiences

Children participate in a variety of play-based activities that teach them about the environment, cultural diversity, health, and responsibility. Lessons on sustainability are integrated into our activities and regularly involve excursions or visits from community organisations.

Some activities include:

  • Recycling of materials and water
  • Promoting sustainable living and encouraging children to develop everyday sustainable practices
  • Collecting food scraps for the chickens

Excursions are one of our favourite activities! We go on:

  • Regular visits to the primary school (including eating lunch with school children in term 4)
  • Visits to school for joint incursions such as Reading Circle, Book Week, National Simultaneous Storytime, and visits from Aboriginal elders
  • Visits to the local library
  • Visits to the local park and pond
  • Visits to the local post office to post a letter

We also love receiving visitors and special guests such as:

  • The Responsible Pet Program
  • The Dentist

Health and wellbeing

Children learn about basic nutrition and how to take care of their bodies at our early learning centre. We teach them about food safety, healthy eating, and the importance of exercise through fun, practical tasks.

Some of these include:

  • Progressive snack and lunchtime to empower children to ask for what they want and when
  • Installing garden beds in the playground to grow our own herbs and vegetables
  • Cooking and preparing meals for their families

We also participate in:

  • Smiles 4 Miles program
  • Schools as hubs, e.g. reading circle, kinder gym and story time at the local library

Family and community

We pride ourselves on our strong community at High Country Early Learning Centre and invite families to participate in cultural celebrations, fundraising, volunteering, and talking to the children about exciting topics. We have a strong connection to the local primary school and believe this helps to develop your child’s view of the outside world and assists in their transition to school.

We regularly engage with:

  • Omeo Primary School, including eating lunch with the school children in Term 4
  • The local library for story time and other community events
  • Regular visits from the local police officer to read stories to the children and explore his car and equipment
  • A Speech Therapist, Social Worker, and Maternal Child Health Nurse
  • The Responsible Pet Ownership Program
  • Local farmers involved in the reading circle and Book Week community
