Located beside the Port Melbourne Uniting Church, our kindergarten offers programs for children to enjoy fun and adventurous learning activities.

Our kinder has been educating and caring for the children of the Port Phillip community since 1955.

Our educators are passionate about nurturing your child’s self-esteem, sense of belonging and wellbeing to help them thrive.

We welcome children of all abilities and have two educators from the Port Phillip Specialist School who are part of our teaching team.

Our educators offer an inclusive environment and can support children who live with physical and intellectual disabilities.

Learning experiences

Building your child’s connection to the environment will encourage their sense of adventure and physical growth. Our large outdoor space will capture your child’s imagination. From our fairy garden to our herb and vegetable patches, your child will enjoy fun learning adventures at our kindergarten.

Caring for the environment

Your child will learn valuable skills such as recycling, composting and gardening to develop everyday sustainable practices. Our excursions to community-based organisations will help your child foster relationships with the environment and the people around them. We also encourage our families to support the local church community garden.

Family and community connections

We encourage you to participate in your child’s early learning experience. You can do this by:

  • Celebrating significant cultural festivals and days
  • Talking to the children about your job, hobbies or other interesting topics
  • Volunteering your time to support our programs
  • Assisting with fundraising
  • Joining our Parent Advisory Committee (positions are elected at the annual meeting of our kindergarten parents).

To help your child connect with their community, we engage with local groups, services and programs, including:

  • Primary schools
  • Emergency services
  • Dental visit
  • Smiles 4 Miles program
  • Seedlings program
  • Chicken hatching
  • Music with JoJo
  • Science incursions.

Language

Our educators speak English and French. We can have all forms of communication translated for families who speak languages other than English.

Nominated Supervisor

Carol

Hi, I’m Carol and I’m the Service Leader at Port Melbourne Uniting Kindergarten.

I have been an early childhood educator for over 20 years, working in a combination of childcare and sessional kinder settings.

I hold a Bachelor of Early Childhood education and graduated with Distinction. During my term as an Early Childhood teacher, I championed and mentored my team to be part of Be You, the national mental health and wellbeing initiative for learning communities in Australia.

I was privileged to be raised in multicultural Singapore. I bring to the job my nurtured value – supporting and embracing diversity and respecting cultures. My passion for early childhood education stems from my cultural background and my ability and patience to see a young learner thrive, be confident and ready to embark on a safe learning journey.

I continue to support societal change, grow as a leader and evolve according to the needs of the community of learners.

The team and I look forward to welcoming you into our kindergarten.

Health and wellbeing

Safe environment

As a child safe organisation, our educators undergo regular working with children’s and police checks. We are focussed on delivering learning and development in a safe and supportive environment, so you can trust that your child is in good hands.

Mental health

Our educators are trained in various programs to support the mental health of your child and are skilled in working with children who have experienced challenges and trauma. We also offer mental health support for families if you find yourself in need of assistance.

Nutrition

Children are involved in caring for our vegetable garden to help them develop healthy living practices early in life. Our cooking classes teach children about nutrition and food safety, while introducing them to foods from different cultures.
