Early Learning Centre
Early learning in Buchan.
Located on Buchan–Orbost Road, we provide childcare and kindergarten services to the Buchan community.
You can rely on us for long day care to support your busy schedule, while we provide fun and creative early learning experiences for your child.
Your child will learn in an environment that will build their sense of belonging, resilience, kindness and teamwork.
Our small group sizes will give your child access to age–appropriate activities and personalised care
while they play and explore in our beautiful bushland centre.
Our educators are experienced in working with children who live with a range of physical and intellectual disabilities.
Our centre
Our outdoor spaces will give your child the opportunity to engage in hands–on, nature–based play. Inside our centre are spaces dedicated to reading, poetry, puppets and music. Our early learning centre features:
- Planned indoor spaces
- Large outdoor spaces
- Sand and mud pits
- Recycling area
- Wooden cubby house
- Swings
- Water tanks.
- Play equipment for climbing, skipping, throwing and catching
- Trees and natural shade
- Dry creek bed
- Gardening bed

- Worm farm

Our activities will help your child build their physical, social and language skills, while developing a love of learning and nature.

Caring for the environment
Some of our nature–based activities include:

- Tending to the worm farm
- Learning to compost
- Teaching children about sustainable living
- Excursions that encourage children to care for the environment.

Family and community connections
We welcome families to get involved in our activities in ways they feel comfortable.
You are welcome to:
- Celebrate significant cultural festivals and days

- Volunteer your time to support our programs
- Join our Parent Partnership Group.
We regularly host visits from community members who teach the children about First Nations culture through art and stories. Some of the other groups, services and community members we engage with include:

Language
We support inclusive practices of families that speak languages other than English and welcome you to teach your language and culture to the children. We can have all forms of communication translated for families who speak languages other than English.

Early Childhood Teacher

Leanne
Hello, I’m Leanne, the Early Childhood Teacher at Buchan Uniting Early Learning. I’ve been an early childhood teacher for over 20 years. I have a Diploma of Teaching – Primary and a Graduate Diploma of Education – Early Childhood. I’m passionate about creating an extremely rich, thought–provoking learning environment that is authentically beautiful for all children. With the intention of each child developing a true sense of belonging, to feel safe, secure and supported as they participate in open–ended experiences to support their learning and engagement. I view children as confident, capable, curious and active learners. Building strong partnerships with families is the key to maximising the fullest potential of each individual child. Our educators are trained in various programs to support the mental health of your child and are skilled in working with children who have experienced challenges and trauma. We also offer mental health support for families if you find yourself in need of assistance.

Nutrition
Your child will learn about the importance of eating fresh, nutritious food and overall wellbeing at our early learning centre. Through sharing and socialising during mealtimes, discovering foods from other cultures and eating different flavours, we aim to create healthy habits that will stay with your child for life.
At our centre, we:
- Grow our own fruit, vegetables and herbs
- Cater for all dietary requirements
- Emphasise food safety
- Work with families from a range of cultural backgrounds to ensure cultural foods meet requirements
- Teach children about the difference between fresh and processed food
