Early Learning Centre in Boronia supporting local families

Choosing a kindergarten is a big step for your child, and for you. At our Cooinda Uniting Kindergarten in Boronia, families are welcomed into a warm, community-minded space where children are encouraged to be curious, capable, and completely themselves.

As an early learning centre that Boronia families trust, we focus on what matters most in early childhood: secure relationships, meaningful play, and learning experiences that feel engaging (not rushed). Children learn through hands-on exploration, imagination, conversation, and real-life problem solving.

Our Cooinda centre is also part of the Uniting Early Learning network, which means families benefit from a connected approach to early childhood education across Victoria and Tasmania. We offer funded kindergarten programs, including 3-year-old kinder and 4-year-old kinder.

About our Cooinda Kindergarten in Boronia

At the heart of our centre is a simple belief: children learn best when they feel safe, connected, and respected. We put this into practise by nurturing relationships and inclusive practice, with educators taking time to understand each child’s personality, strengths, interests, and family story.

Play-based learning is more than “just play”. It’s how children make sense of the world. Through play, children practise communication, build friendships, test ideas, manage emotions, and develop resilience. At our Cooinda kindergarten in Boronia, educators intentionally plan experiences that support learning while still leaving plenty of room for child-led discovery.

We also value partnerships with families. When educators and families work together, children experience a stronger sense of security, which supports learning in every direction.

Kindergarten programs for 3-and-4 year olds

Cooinda offers both 3-year-old and 4-year-old kindergarten programs designed to meet children where they are developmentally and gently extend their skills through play and relationships.

In the 3-year-old program, children begin learning how to be part of a group: sharing space, taking turns, expressing needs, and building confidence away from home. This year is often when children discover they can do hard things, like joining in group time or asking a friend to play.

In the 4-year-old program, children continue developing independence while strengthening foundations that support a confident transition to school. Educators introduce early literacy and numeracy concepts into everyday experiences, like storytelling, drawing, making signs, cooking, counting games, construction play, and noticing patterns in nature. Children practise listening, focusing, solving problems, and persisting with challenges, all within a supportive environment.

Features of our Boronia Early Learning Environment

The learning environment matters. Not just what it looks like, but how it feels. At our centre in Cooinda, indoor and outdoor spaces are designed to invite exploration, creativity, and calm.

Indoors, children have access to areas that support different types of learning and play. There may be spaces for imaginative role play (shops, home corners, dress-ups), construction and problem solving (blocks, loose parts, puzzles), creative expression (art, collage, clay), and quiet moments (books, mindfulness tools, cosy corners). These spaces give children the choice to collaborate with others or take time to reset when they need it.

Outdoors, children are encouraged to move their bodies and connect with the natural world. Nature-based play supports everything from balance and coordination to confidence and teamwork. Outdoor learning might include digging, gardening, observing insects, creating obstacle courses, building with natural materials, or inventing games with friends.

Building strong family and community connections

Children feel a stronger sense of belonging when their family and culture are visible and valued. At our kindergarten in Boronia, families are encouraged to be part of kinder life, whether that’s joining a special event, sharing a tradition, helping with a community activity, or simply chatting with educators about what your child is enjoying right now.

These connections matter. When children see their family engaged with their learning environment, it reinforces the message: “This place is for me. I belong here.”

Community partnerships that support learning

We value strong local connections that enrich children’s learning and strengthen community ties. Depending on the year and community opportunities, partnerships may include:

Supporting children with additional needs

Every child deserves to feel included, understood, and able to participate fully. At Cooinda, inclusive education is built into everyday practice. We support children with additional needs through flexible learning experiences, visual supports and predictable routines, and adjustments that help children engage confidently. Just as importantly, we work closely with families to understand what supports a child at home and what might work best in the kinder environment.

When needed, we can also collaborate with external specialists and draw on Uniting’s inclusion pathways and guidance.

Meet the Educators at our Boronia Early Learning Centre

A great early learning experience starts with the people. Our educators are qualified early childhood professionals who bring both expertise and genuine care to their work. They draw on training in early years development, learning frameworks, and inclusive practice, while also understanding that every child is unique.

At our children’s early learning centre in Boronia, we focus on building secure relationships with children and strong, respectful partnerships with families. You’ll see this in our warm greetings, thoughtful conversations at drop-off, regular communication about your child’s interests and progress, and a shared approach to supporting their learning journey.

Families should feel confident asking questions and sharing insights. When children see trusted adults working together, they feel safe, and that safety creates the conditions for learning.

Service Leader and Teacher

Diane

Hi, I’m Diane, the Service Leader and a teacher at Cooinda Uniting Kindergarten.

I have a Bachelor of Early Childhood Education and have been a teacher in the Knox area for over 16 years.

At Cooinda, we provide a play-based program that allows children to explore and learn, with open-ended experiences that encourage exploration and discovery. We have a strong focus on social and emotional development, supporting children to develop positive self-esteem, self-confidence, and an ability to recognise and regulate their own emotions.

I value lifelong learning and aim to foster a love of learning for the children I work with. Our team provides an environment that is fun, engaging, and encourages curiosity and imagination.

The team at Cooinda look forward to welcoming you to the kindergarten.

Health and wellbeing

Mental health

Our educators are trained in various programs to support the mental health of your child and are skilled in working with children who have experienced challenges and trauma. We can also refer to mental health support programs for families if you find yourself in need of assistance.

Nutrition

Your child will learn about good nutrition to form healthy eating habits. We do this by growing fruit, vegetables and herbs in our centre garden. We also teach food safety practices. We respect and follow culturally appropriate food guidelines as we educate the children about healthy eating and nutrition.

Safe environment

As a child safe organisation, our educators undergo regular working with children’s and police checks. We are focused on delivering learning and development in a safe and supportive environment, so you can trust that your child is in good hands.
