Poowong Uniting Kindergarten

Call us to arrange a tour,

Conveniently located next to the Poowong Maternal & Child Health Centre, our highly-qualified and experienced educators have been providing personalised learning programs to the preschool children of our community since 1972.

Poowong Kindergarten embraces each child's unique strengths, interests and personalities and strives to develop children's physical, social and emotional learning. We encourage relationship building, communication skills, decision making and resilience.

To showcase our facility we have created a 3-D Virtual Tour with a dollhouse view and a highlight reel.

Health and wellbeing

Your child’s health and wellbeing is very important to us. We actively promote the importance of healthy lifestyles through a number of programs. Diverse dietary requirements are easily catered for, and we work closely with families to teach them about healthy eating and nutrition.

At Poowong Kindergarten:

  • We support children's wellbeing through participation in programs such as the resilience project, by learning about emotions coaching and by planning parenting programs
  • We grow our own produce in our garden including herbs, vegetables, and fruit
  • We accommodate diverse dietary requirements
  • We practise and emphasise food safety
  • We work sensitively with parents and families from a range of cultural backgrounds to ensure cultural foods meet standard requirements
Family and community

Poowong is a small, tight-knit community. Through a number of programs and local initiatives, our children regularly interact with members of the community which helps develop their sense of belonging and connectedness. We always encourage parents to take an active role in their children’s early learning experience.

Parents can participate when:

  • We celebrate significant cultural festivals and days together
  • We invite them to talk to the children about their job, hobbies or other interesting topics
  • They volunteer their time to provide support and resources for our programs
  • They assist with fundraising
  • We have a Parent Advisory Committee (positions are elected at the annual meeting of our kindergarten parents)

We also work cooperatively with other community groups- such as Local Men's Shed, Primary
schools, Lions Club, Garden Club and the Country Women's Association who generously provide support for
our service.
