Caring for and educating the children of Wellington Shire and surrounding areas since 1961.

Queen Street Uniting Early Learning Centre offers age-appropriate classes for children up to 4 years of age. We pride ourselves on our involvement with the local community, allowing your child to learn and grow in an inclusive, culturally diverse environment.

To showcase our facility we have created a 3-D Virtual Tour with a dollhouse view and a highlight reel.

Our large outdoor space offers a wonderful array of natural and recreational features that encourage your child to develop and pursue their own interests. We love to see them connect with their surrounding environment, and include equipment and activities that promote the development of everyday sustainable practices.

Our kindergarten features:

  • Planned and intentional indoor spaces
  • Large outdoor space
  • Sandpit
  • Trees and natural shade
  • Vegetable and herb gardening beds for growing our own produce
  • Shade sail
  • Play area with climbing equipment
  • Swings
  • Recycling area encouraging sustainability and caring for the environment
  • Cubby house
  • Gross motor play equipment for activities such as climbing, skipping, throwing and catching
  • Worm farm
  • Water tank

Learning Experiences

In addition to the variety of play-based adventures inspired by our well-equipped indoor and outdoor spaces, children enjoy actively participating in sustainable practices such as caring for our worm farm. They have fun learning about the world around them, often by working with members of the community.

Some of our activities include:

  • Recycling
  • Promoting sustainable living and encouraging children to develop everyday sustainable practices
  • Tending to the worm farm
  • Composting
  • Making insect houses
  • Sustainability lessons from the Wellington Shire Sustainability Officer

Health and wellbeing

Children learn about basic nutrition and how to take care of their bodies at kindergarten. We teach them about sustainability, healthy eating, and the importance of exercise through fun, practical tasks.

Our activities include growing our own produce such as herbs, vegetables and fruit in our garden and educating children and their families about healthy eating and nutrition.

Family and community

We encourage families to get involved in their child’s early learning experiences, inviting them to participate in cultural celebrations, volunteer their time, help with fundraising, and talk about topics of interest to the children. We engage with a variety of community groups and organisations to make your child’s education as fulfilling as possible by expanding their understanding of different cultures and the outside world.

Some of the people, groups or services within our community that we engage with include:

  • Indigenous community members or groups
  • The Wellington Shire Maffra Library, to celebrate Book week. We are also attempting to facilitate a regular Preschool Story Time once a term in 2019.
  • Aboriginal elder Cassie Leatham. Cassie attends the service once a term to facilitate children's learning about the traditional owners of our land and waters through planned craft activities, discussions and hands of learning.
  • Community health and wellbeing program Smiles 4 Miles, encouraging and promoting good oral health habits and healthy eating among children

We love excursions! Some of the places we’ve visited include:

  • Port of Sale Art gallery and Fauna Park Sale
  • Maffra Gym and Macalister River Park
  • The local war memorial
  • Maffra Library for Book Week

We also love to be educated and entertained by special visitors and guests such as:

  • Declan the Music Man
  • Animal/Wildlife shows
  • Living Safely with Dogs
  • The Wellington Shire sustainability program

We can have all forms of communication translated for families who speak languages other than English.
