Director and Kindergarten Teacher
Josephine
Hi, my name is Josephine, I am the Director and Teacher at Heyfield Uniting Kindergarten. The children know me as Miss Jo. Throughout my years as a teacher, there have been many changes, but my goal of encouraging each child to reach their full potential still drives my programming and my personal teaching philosophy. I value inclusion for all children and families, and I believe it is our differences that make us strong as a community.
I completed my Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood/Primary) in 1998. Since then, I have worked in several rural Kindergartens. During maternity leave, I worked casual hours in both Kindergartens and Child Care, and I have kept busy volunteering. My volunteer work included coaching at Little Athletics, Children’s liturgy, taking a music program, and being part of fundraising committees. My volunteer work has helped me to understand the importance of communication, transparency and working as a team.
Health and wellbeing
Mental health
Our educators are trained in various programs to support the mental health of your child and are skilled in working with children who have experienced challenges and trauma. We also offer mental health support for families if you find yourself in need of assistance.
Nutrition
We are passionate about teaching children the importance of making healthy food choices. Your child will learn about basic nutrition, cooking, food safety and the importance of exercise through fun and practical activities, including:
- Growing our own produce in our garden
- Family cooking classes using home-grown produce
- Food safety classes
- Play-based exercise.
Safe environment
As a child safe organisation, our educators undergo regular working with children’s and police checks. We are focussed on delivering learning and development in a safe and supportive environment, so you can trust that your child is in good hands.
