Kylie has spent her whole career as a family day carer with Uniting.
Kylie knew from a young age that looking after children was her calling in life.
“I’ve always loved children,” says Kylie.
“I have 6 children myself.
“I had my first child at a young age and knew I wanted a career where I could have him with me all of the time.
“I saw an ad in the local paper and decided to apply.
“I then went about setting up my home, so it was suitable to care for other children.”
Over 15 years later, Kylie hasn’t looked back.
“It’s been a lot of fun along the way,” says Kylie.
“My favourite part is getting to know the families. I’ve made some good friends through my family day care business.
“I develop a monthly program for each child.
“It’s really rewarding to be part of their early learning development.
“Of course, there have been challenges along the way. But I can’t imagine myself doing anything else.”
Kylie says the support she has received from Uniting has helped make her family day care role easier.
“My field worker is amazing,” says Kylie.
“She’s always available if I have any questions. If I call, text or email, she always gets back to me.”
Kylie encourages others to consider a career in family day care.
“Do it, you’ll love it. Especially if you have a family of your own.
“My family has grown because of it.”
