Swifts Creek Kindergarten and Early Childhood Development Centre

We create an environment where children of all ages interact and learn from each other in our beautiful outdoor and indoor spaces. We place a strong emphasis on outside activities such as climbing, skipping, throwing and catching which improves children’s key developmental skills.

Our kindergarten and early learning centre features:

• Planned and intentional indoor spaces
• Sandpit
• Mud pit
• Gardening beds with vegetables and herbs
• Shade sail
• Play area/climbing equipment
• Cubby house
• Gross motor play equipment for activities such as climbing, skipping, throwing and catching
• Chickens
• Water tank

Children have inquisitive minds and we feed their thirst for knowledge with a wide range of exciting activities and excursions. Our children love caring for their kindergarten chooks, learning about sustainable practices, and visiting members of the local community.

To teach children about the importance of sustainability:

• We encourage recycling
• We recycle water
• We promote sustainable living and encourage children to develop everyday sustainable practises

We love to take the children out into the community to explore the world around them. Excursions include trips to:

• The local shops
• CFA
• Police station
• Reading Circle
• Book Week at the local school
• National Simultaneous Storytime (held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association, read more about it here)

We also invite many visitors and guest speakers to come and present to the children, including:

• Visits from speech and occupational therapists and the local school
• Drum music sessions
• Sally Ward from Walker Learning to prepare children for their transition to primary school
• Pet safety professionals
• Road safety professional
• Emergency service providers such as police and firefighters

We know the importance of teaching healthy eating habits to children from a young age. We go the extra mile to make sure your child is receiving a fresh and nutritional diet using our own homegrown and locally sourced produce. We also work closely with families to help them make healthy food choices for their children.

At our kindergarten and early learning centre:

• We grow our own produce in our garden including herbs, vegetables, and fruit
• We practise and emphasise food safety
• We educate children and their families about healthy eating and nutrition

We also participate in a community health and wellbeing program called Smiles 4 Miles which encourages and promotes good oral health habits and healthy eating among children.

We want children to feel at ease, not only in our kindergarten and early learning centre but in the wider community, because we believe it is vital for children’s development. We collaborate closely with a range of people and services to create opportunities for children to recognise they are part of a broader community. We also strongly encourage parents to take an active role in their child’s early learning and kindergarten experience.

Parents can participate when:

• We celebrate significant cultural festivals and days together
• We invite them to talk to the children about their job, hobbies and other interesting topics
• They volunteer their time to provide support and resources for our programs
• They assist with fundraising
• We have Parent Advisory Committee meetings (positions are elected at the annual meeting of our kindergarten parents)

Various people, groups or services within our community we engage with regularly include:

• Local primary school
• Local emergency service providers and health professionals
• Wellbeing practitioners
• Animal trainers or handlers
• Farms or farmers
