Child care
Long day care

Orbost Early Education Centre offers long day care for children aged 0 – 5 years old.

We have a strong focus on taking excursions that encourage children to care for the environment around them and encourage them to develop every day sustainable practices.

Our approach

At our centre, children of all ages interact and learn from each other. Your child will learn, discover, create and imagine through play-based learning, guided by our professional educators.

We offer age appropriate, play-based programs tailored to our families and children. Nurturing children in positive and stimulating environments encourages them to explore their world, discover themselves and build healthy relationships with other children and adults.

We help to lay the foundations for future learning through an environment that is rich in numbers, words and creative activity.

Learning Experiences

Children are given the opportunity to care for our vegetable garden, watering our plants and caring for our chickens on a daily basis.

Our vegetable garden supports our heathy eating and we use our own produce in our cooking program. We have fresh eggs from our chickens and these are used for cooking or taken home by the children to cook at home.

As we are located next to farmland and regularly feed the cows in the paddock over our back fence.

Other visits to our kindergarten have been a blue tongue lizard, a safe pet handling expert and the local secondary school college band to play for us.

The children enjoy visits from the local Koori people who teach them about indigenous culture.

The children have regular visits to the sensory garden in town. We have a lovely adventure walking to the garden where we are met by the Garden Club who teach us about the plants.

Health and wellbeing

Our educators are qualified and experienced in providing quality early learning that lets your child thrive. We invest in significant professional development to equip our educators with the skills they need to provide safe and nurturing environments to all children.

We practise and emphasise food safety educating educate children and their families about healthy eating. At our kindergarten we accommodate diverse dietary requirements and nutrition.

We grow our own produce in our garden (e.g. herbs, vegetables, fruit). The children at our centre bring their own meals and we prepare fruit to share.

Family and Community

Our centre is a place of nurturing family and community. Parents and carers are the most important people in a child’s development, and parent involvement is a crucial part of making our child care centre successful. We encourage parents and carers to be active in their child’s learning, whether by contributing to program development or interacting with our early learning communities.

All families are unique with their own culture which we embrace and respect, making our program diverse and individualised. We celebrate significant cultural festivals and days together.

We welcome families and value their input into our learning and care environment. We include the knowledge they have of their own children into our program and work collaborative to provide the best learning and care outcomes for all children.

We believe that feeling a sense of belonging not only at our service, but in the wider community is vital for children’s development. We create opportunities for children to recognise they are part of a broader community, exploring and engaging with our local community by working in partnerships with our local school, other services that provide care and our local playgroup.

While English is our primary language we can have all forms of communication translated for

families who speak other languages.

One of our educators speaks a Torres Strait Islander language and she teaches the children songs, dances and stories.

Special Services

Our educators are very experienced in working with children with additional needs and challenges, and we have access to Kindergarten Inclusion Support educators who support the participation of children with disabilities, high support and complex medical needs.

Our educators are equipped with the skills to provide safe and nurturing environments to all children.
