Kent Road Uniting Kindergarten

Since 1961, Kent Road Uniting Church Preschool has provided high-quality care and education for pre-schoolers.

At our preschool, children explore nearby nature reserves, learn about indigenous and other cultures, and develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need for a successful first year of school.

To showcase our facility we have created a 3-D Virtual Tour with a dollshouse view and a highlight reel.

Every child can feel safe and inspired in our vibrant kindergarten. With an abundance of resources, craft supplies, and play equipment available, children can run, climb, dig, create, read, garden, and let their imaginations go wild!

Learning Experiences

Children can follow their curiosity, explore, and discover the world around them through fun, play-based experiences. We align our curriculum with the children's interests, abilities and learning styles, so they truly engage with the education program and develop a love of learning.

Guest visitors and excursions bring our curriculum to life with:

  • Pet Education
  • Drama Toolbox
  • Dental Visits
  • Rhythm Fun
  • Mandarin Cultural Performances
Health and wellbeing

We empower children to make healthy choices at kindergarten and home. By educating them and their families about nutrition and the importance of a balanced lifestyle, they develop skills to take care of their bodies, form good eating habits, and have the energy and eagerness to live their best lives.

Family and community

Our kindergarten welcomes family and encourages the spirit of community. We respect each child’s individuality and cultural background, value each family’s participation in the program and work in partnership with families to provide the best outcomes for their child.

We encourage parent involvement and ask that parents contribute to their child’s program by:

  • Celebrating significant cultural festivals and days together
  • Talking to the children about their job, hobbies or other interesting topics
  • Volunteering their time to provide support and resources for our programs
  • Being part of our active Parent Advisory Committee
  • Assisting with fundraising and social activities

Learning Languages Program

In 2019 the Victorian Department of Education and Training (DET), introduced the Early Childhood Language Program incorporating Language Learning in some Kindergartens across Victoria.

We are pleased to share that Uniting was successful in obtaining funding to introduce the Mandarin Language Program at Kent Road Uniting Kindergarten.

At Kent Road Uniting Kindergarten, Mandarin is incorporated into everyday learning experiences to give children meaningful opportunities to use the language themselves. Children learn this language through play, art, music, singing, dancing, and stories.

A qualified Mandarin teacher delivers the language program in partnership with the other staff at the kinder.

Learning in languages other than English helps children to improve their overall literacy and understanding of how language in general works.

Education experts have found that there are many benefits to children learning in another language at a young age, including:

  • increased literacy
  • cognitive flexibility
  • bolstering self-esteem and wellbeing
  • strengthened cultural identity

Our staff are English speakers and are trained to use some key word signing. We can have forms of communication translated and interpreted for families who speak languages other than English. Important information for parents and families is displayed prominently in our foyer.

Special services

Our educators have the skills to provide a safe and nurturing environment for all children. They are experienced in working with children who live with a range of physical and intellectual disability as well as those who have experienced challenges and trauma.
