We use the Reggio Emilia approach that honours children as strong, competent and capable citizens who are full of wonder and curiosity to learn.

Children have a natural drive that makes them want to understand and know about the world around them and how this world relates to them. Capable of creating their own ways of learning through play, children explore a variety of hands-on-learning experiences at our early learning centre.

We create the spaces that allow children to fulfil this potential through play-based activities that are shaped for each child’s needs and level of development. Children are given time to learn, explore, and then return to a focus of interest as needed.

It is an approach based on listening rather than talking; where doubt and amazement are welcome factors along with inquiry.

Our spacious and engaging outdoor areas provide boundless opportunities for play-based activities that encourage the physical and social development of children. All equipment and natural features are safe, and our recycling area helps to plant the seed of environmental awareness and sustainability.

Our early learning centre features:

Children enjoy learning from a combination of organised play-based activities and programs and are also encouraged to pursue their own interests in our well-equipped spaces. We often engage with community members and organisations to support our topics of learning, such as sustainable practises, with real-world examples.

At our early learning centre:

We focus on empowering children to make healthy choices by offering lessons on nutrition, food safety, and cuisines from other cultures. Children are involved in the growth and preparation of our home-grown produce to encourage sustainable living and are encouraged to put healthy eating habits into practice during break times.

At our early learning centre:

• We grow our own produce in our garden (e.g. herbs, vegetables, fruit)
• We accommodate diverse dietary requirements
• We practise and emphasise food safety
• We work sensitively with parents and families from a range of cultural backgrounds to ensure cultural foods meet food standard requirements
• We offer progressive snack and lunchtime to empower children to ask for what they want and when
• We educate children and their families about healthy eating and nutrition
• We offer information on healthy choices for lunch boxes. We meet with parents if the children’s lunch boxes are unsuitable

Campbell Street Uniting OSHC values family and community. We actively promote and encourage partnerships with families as this creates a special sense of belonging that is essential to the learning environment of our children. We regularly engage with community members and groups to broaden their understanding of the world.

Parents and families are invited to participate in:

• Celebrating significant cultural festivals and days together
• Talking to the children about their job, hobbies or other interesting topics
• Volunteering their time to provide support and resources for our programs
• Attending as parental support with program activities and on excursions

We regularly engage with many different people, groups and services within our community including:

• The primary school
• The local library
• Local service people (e.g. police, paramedic, nurse, fire and emergency services, etc.)
• Wellbeing practitioners
• Indigenous community members or groups
• Animal trainers or handlers
• Fundraising for different charities (e.g. Pancake day, Day for Daniel and school chosen charities)

We can have all forms of communication translated for families who speak languages other than English.

Our educators are experienced in working with children who live with a range of physical and intellectual disability or have experienced challenges and trauma.
